What are MedChrons?
MedChrons (medical chronologies) are organized summaries of medical treatment — timelines of care, diagnoses, and procedures derived from records. They are used to support demand letters, discovery, and trial preparation. Vendors like EvenUp offer MedChrons as part of their platform, often combined with demand drafting and other PI workflows.
What they don't do
A chronology tells you what treatment occurred and when; it does not tell you the current balance due from a provider or lien holder. The amount on a bill that was used to build the chronology may have changed by the time of settlement. Payments may have posted, adjustments may have been made, and lien amounts may have been updated. MedChrons are not a substitute for live balance verification.
Why verification is still needed
Verification requires contacting the billing department or payer, navigating their phone system, and obtaining a current, verified figure. That process is separate from summarizing records. Firms that rely on chronology amounts without re-verifying near settlement risk overpaying, underpaying, or facing lien disputes.
Best practice is to use MedChrons for narrative and demand support, and to use a dedicated verification process (or tool) for balance confirmation. The two workflows complement each other but are not interchangeable.
